QNFSP Import Requirements

The Qatar National Food Safety Programme (QNFSP) under the Ministry of Public Health regulates meat imports into Qatar. Key requirements:

Approved Exporting Country & Establishment

Ethiopia and the specific abattoir must be on Qatar's approved list. Horn Gate works with QNFSP-approved establishments.

Halal Certificate

Must be issued by a body recognized by QNFSP. The certificate must be shipment-specific and include lot numbers.

Veterinary Health Certificate

Issued by the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture per QNFSP requirements. Must confirm the product is fit for human consumption.

No Pre-Slaughter Stunning

Qatar does not permit pre-slaughter stunning. Hand slaughter (zabiha) is required.

Import Permit

The Qatari importer must obtain an import permit from QNFSP before the shipment departs Ethiopia.
